چکیده

Abstract The ReadOut System (ROS) is a central part of the data acquisition (DAQ) system ATLAS Experiment at CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). responsible for receiving and buffering event from all detector subsystems serving these to High Level Trigger (HLT) via 10 GbE network, discarding or transporting onward once trigger has completed its selection process. ROS was completely replaced during 2013–2014 experimental shutdown in order meet demanding conditions expected LHC Run 2 3 (2015–2025). consists roughly one hundred Linux-based 2U-high rack-mounted servers equipped with PCIe I/O cards interfaces. This paper documents requirements Runs design choices taken them. results performance measurements re-use technology development sources, test platforms other systems, another DAQ component, namely Region Interest Builder (RoIB), are also discussed. Finally operations presented before looking upgrade 3.

The ATLAS Trigger Core Configuration and Execution System in Light of the ATLAS Upgrade for LHC Run 2

During the 2013/14 shutdown of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) the ATLAS first level trigger (L1) and the data acquisition system (DAQ) were substantially upgraded to cope with the increase in luminosity and collision multiplicity, expected to be delivered by the LHC in 2015. Upgrades were performed at both the L1 stage and the single combined subsequent high level trigger (HLT) stage that has ...

Noise Characterization of the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter Readout System

It is shown that the addition of a low pass RC filter to the current ATLAS Tile Calorimeter 3-in-1 card decreases the high frequency noise. A peak in the output voltage is found for 29 Mhz input noise but is filtered out by the same low pass filter.

Preparing ATLAS reconstruction software for LHC ' s Run 2

In order to maximize the physics potential of the ATLAS experiment during LHC’s Run 2, the reconstruction software has been updated. Flat computing budgets required a factor of three improved execution time, while the new xAOD data format forced changes in the reconstruction algorithms. Physics performance was also made better. This paper presents an overview of the improvements made to the rec...

Readout and Trigger for the AFP Detector at ATLAS Experiment

AFP, the ATLAS Forward Proton consists of silicon detectors at 205 m and 217 m on each side of ATLAS. In 2016 two detectors in one side were installed. The FEI4 chips are read at 160 Mbps over the optical fibers. The DAQ system uses a FPGA board with Artix chip and a mezzanine card with RCE data processing module based on a Zynq chip with ARM processor running ArchLinux. In this contribution we...

The ATLAS ReadOut System - performance with first data and perspective for the future

The ATLAS ReadOut System (ROS) receives data fragments from ∼1600 detector readout links, buffers them and provides them on demand to the second-level trigger or to the event building system. The ROS is implemented with ∼150 PCs. Each PC houses a few, typically 4, custom-built PCI boards (ROBIN) and a 4-port PCIe Gigabit Ethernet NIC. The PCs run a multi-threaded object-oriented application man...
